First Baptist Church of South Londonderry has been rebuilding this past summer and fall after a fire destroyed the previous building in August of 2010. The new building will be in the same location as the previous one, and it is already visible while crossing the bridge on Route 100. Over the past few months the site has been prepared, the foundation has been poured, the walls have been constructed, and the roof has been placed on the building. What stood as an empty lot for almost four years is finally taking shape as the new church building, which is built in the same footprint of the old building.
Construction will pause for the winter until the beginning of April due to weather. Originally the plan was to continue construction through the winter, but the work would require tarping and heating over the winter, which would be costly and difficult. Construction will resume in the spring, beginning with adding brick to the sanctuary portion of the building and shingling the roof. The church is excited about finally rebuilding, but they are regularly evaluating how to be cost effective in the construction. First Baptist continues to raise money for the completion of the project. They had adequate insurance; however, with current commercial building codes, they are raising funds to help with the added expense. The exterior of the building will be finished in the spring and summer of 2015, and the site will be landscaped. Many people have made generous contributions towards the new building, and the church is very thankful for those donations. More information about the building and fundraising efforts is on the church website: www.firstbaptistlondonderryvt.org.

The church currently meets at the Londonderry Town Hall, which is located at 139 Middletown Road in South Londonderry. This family friendly service will include singing Christmas carols, reading about Jesus’ birth, and listening to a meditation. At the end of the service, they have the tradition of sharing the light of Christ by giving candles out and sharing the flame with one another. All are welcome to join in on this most special service. Call 802-856-7266 for more information.
Our partner church, Stratton Community Church will be holding their service at the Chapel of the Snows at 8:00pm. Go here for details. Thank You! Thank You!
In the last week and a half we raised $4,761 for the Building Fund! Thank you to those who have given. Thank you to those who posted on Facebook about Giving Tuesday, as well as shared and liked First Baptist Church's posts. 229 people watched our video. We've had 532 views of our website since November 23rd. All this says that we're getting our story out to our friends and family. We had donations from people in Alabama and Delaware, and even further than that. Keep sharing our story! On Wednesday September 10th we installed the two 5000 gallon water suppression tanks for the new church building! First Baptist Church of South Londonderry has begun construction on their new building. The site work is being done by Raymond Smith Excavating, including a retaining wall that can be seen from Middletown Road. Russell Construction, out of Rutland, the construction contract. They have been busy completing the foundation and the first floor. Two underground water tanks for the sprinkler system were put in place last week. The construction crew is hard at work trying to get as much of the outside shell completed as they can by winter.
Members and friends of First Baptist Church are excited to see the progress of the construction. It’s been four years, since the previous building was destroyed by fire. They have planned a building that can be used for the current generation and for many generations to come. Tina Labeau, a long-time member of the church, said, “We’ve been preparing for this new building for such a long time. I stop by the work site frequently to see how everything is coming together. I can’t wait to be able to worship in this building, as well as serve the community with this building!” First Baptist Church has experienced how it is possible to have a church without a building; however, those in the congregation are looking forward to sharing with the community. They would love to see the building be used for meetings and workshops by local Non-Profit organizations, for community meals, for Snowboarders and Skiers for Christ Southern VT events, and for weddings. They want to have the building used throughout the week. While First Baptist Church had insurance from the fire, the cost of this building is greater due to it being a commercial building and being subject to all the codes, fire safety and ADA requirements. At this point they have enough funds to finish Phase 1 of the building project. Phase 1 of the church building includes the exterior of the building being completed (except for the steeple), and insulation with wall board installed, as well as mechanical, electrical, and the fire sprinkler systems roughed in. The boiler and radiant heat systems will be operational. To be able to use the building and get a ‘Certificate of Occupancy’ Phase 2 must be completed. Phase 2 includes the elevator, fire pump, flooring, doors, and light fixtures. Phase 2 requires an additional $600,000 in funding. Any donations great or small are appreciated. Gifts can be sent to: Post Office Box 278 South Londonderry, VT 05155 or given online at www.firstbaptistlondonderryvt.org. First Baptist Church of South Londonderry held Kids Club (VBS) during the week of July 14th-18th. Local kids came out for a fun-filled week. They learned some new songs with exciting motions. They were able to run around and play some fun games, and on the last day they enjoyed jumping in the bouncy house. They made some amazing crafts, such as felt crabs and little bulletin boards. They learned about how God’s love is giving, kind, caring, forgiving, and forever.
First Baptist Church also introduced Middle School Adventures this year. The youth completed service projects, including stacking wood and building shelving for the Neighbor’s Pantry. They also went on hikes to three waterfalls: Hamilton Falls, Angel Falls, and Pikes Falls. The youth had a blast, and First Baptist Church plans on continuing this program for years to come! A big thank you to all who helped with Kids Club and Middle School Adventures. Teachers, volunteers, and parents made this a great year! Also, thank you to all the SERVE students and leaders from King of Prussia, PA, who helped with all aspects of the program - leading the songs, acting out stories from the Bible, and helping the kids with the different activities. First Baptist Church currently meets at the Londonderry Town Hall (139 Middletown Road) at 10am on Sunday mornings, and they love having families and kids join the worship!
