The First Baptist Church is looking for donations to help pay for the cost of trash fees at the Londonderry Transfer Station. The SERVE volunteers have undertaken the task of cleaning up the Melendy property on the corner of Middletown Road and Crescent Street in South Londonderry. This summer marks the fifth one that First Baptist Church has hosted SERVE, and we are excited about how we are able to work together to help people and organizations in our area.
SERVE is a group of students and adults who have been coming to Londonderry from Hope Community Church in King of Prussia, PA to do community service projects in Londonderry and the surrounding communities. The first week this year they have 47 middle school students and adults here to work and the second week they have 61 high school students and adults. We encourage community members to drop by the different work sites and thank the students and adults, who have given up a week of their summer vacation. They have also been doing projects for people and organizations, including the West River Montessori School, The Collaborative, and the Second Congregational Church. At the July 15th Select Board meeting in Londonderry, it was voted not to waive the transfer fees for this cleaning project in South Londonderry. At this time they are keeping a running charge for us. We are asking for donations to help us out for this great cause. Any money left over after the transfer fee cost is paid, will be use for the planting of trees or shrubs around this property. We also would like to expand this fund into a yearly fund drive. It would be nice to enable SERVE (completely free) to clean up properties in Londonderry and the surrounding communities. They love serving our community in this way, and it benefits everyone. With your donations we can make this happen! Please send donations to: FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH PO BOX 278 SOUTH LONDONDERRY, VT 05155 “CLEANUP FUND”
